THE SECRET GARDEN, GYPSY and more announced for Music Theater Heritage’s 2023 season

Music Theater Heritage has announced an innovative and exciting 2023 season at the Crown Center. Using three different locations, the 21st season of MTH spotlights stories centered around family, escape and love. The season features Tony Award winners, a Kansas City premiere, an original concert production, as well as the cabaret series THE RUBY ROOM.

“It’s an exciting time at MTH,” said Tim Scott, Managing Director and Creative Director of MTH. “Defying all odds, 2022 has been our most magnificent season yet. The stories we have chosen to spotlight next year in our 21st season are remarkable and underline the importance of family and finding joy of living.”

The 2023 season:

R&H: Unplugged

Music by Richard Rodgers

February 16 – March 6

An original concert production by MTH, the radical and timeless music of Rodgers & Hart and Rodgers & Hammerstein, disconnected from live performances, traditional arrangements and reimagined with only stringed acoustic instruments, in the style/aesthetic of “Unplugged” from MTV. From the witty, playful, and romantic tunes of Rodgers & Hart to the noble, inspiring tunes penned by Rodgers & Hammerstein, you’d be hard pressed to find three people with a more meaningful impact on American music and theater.

The secret garden

April 6 – 23

Gypsy

Considered by many to be the best musical comedy ever created, Stephen Sondheim and Jule Styne’s acclaimed score delivers a continuous barrage of musical theater hits ~ tunes like “Everything’s Coming Up Roses”, “You Gotta Get a Gimmick”, “Let Me Entertain You” Set in the era of the death of vaudeville and the birth of burlesque, Gypsy is the ultimate story of ambition and motherly love.

Spectacular Christmas show

MTH’s annual holiday pageant has become a tradition in Kansas City. An original revue featuring musical theater holiday tunes, innovative arrangements of holiday classics and more! A high-energy song-and-dance extravaganza that proved entertaining and engaging for children ages 1-92.
