BLOOD AND HOLLY to be performed in the US at Paramount in December
Stateside at Paramount presents Blood and Holly, a hysterical holiday performance by Jason Williams of Greater Tuna based on his own life experiences. In his latest solo show, Blood and Holly, Jason Williams recalls his childhood Christmas celebrations as an odd mix of Babes in Toyland with occasional detours through Franco’s Spain. Meet the two elderly Texan sisters without all their eyebrows, the Hugger family members whose Christmas list includes everything from rubber knives for kids to new teeth for Grandma and spend Christmas Eve, in a local bar , in the company of a happy, joyful gentleman. Known as the co-creator of the Greater Tuna plays, Jason will blow your mind. Jaston Williams is the author and co-actor of two-person plays Greater Tuna, Greater Tuna, A Tuna Christmas, Red, White and Tuna, and Tuna Does Vegas. All four have performed across the United States for over thirty years, with stops on Broadway and at venues such as the Kennedy Center, Ford’s Theater, The Alley Theater in Houston, Pasadena Playhouse in LA, American Conservatory Theater. in San Francisco, The American Spoleto Festival and as an official American entry to the Edinburgh Festival, as well as two commissioned performances at the White House.
He also wrote the screenplay and starred in the Norman Lear HBO version of Greater Tuna. The Tuna plays are still among the most produced scripts in America featured in the Samuel French catalog, and A Tuna Christmas was chosen as one of the best plays of 1995. Over a forty-year career he performed in pieces spanning the entire range from avant-garde works by Eugène Ionesco to the joy of musical comedy.
For his solo work, Jaston received the National Marquee Award for his outstanding contribution to historic theaters. He is a seven-time nominee for the prestigious Helen Hayes Awards, which recognize and celebrate excellence in professional theater, recipient of the LA Drama-Logue Award and the San Francisco Bay Area Critics Award. He also received the Texas Governor’s Award for his contribution to the arts in Texas and the Texas Medal of the Arts. He holds an Outstanding Alumnus Award from Texas Tech University, where he is a guest lecturer on the theme of dramatic writing.
Jason’s post-Tuna career has featured a number of original performances from coast to coast, ranging from his father’s nervous breakdown the night the Beatles appeared on Ed Sullivan, to s escape from a rumbling Guatemalan volcano while being pursued by armed kidnappers. , to show up at a 1970s Renaissance fair held at Dennis Hopper’s house, while wearing a chicken costume and posing as Michelangelo. Jason lives in Lockhart, Texas, which is well within Austin’s sphere of influence, with her husband, Kevin, and their son, Song.
