2) First responders from across central Texas and their families gathered Monday for the funeral and final honors of senior Austin police officer Anthony “Tony” Martin. The Statesman reports that hundreds of city, county and state law enforcement officers, medical first responders and firefighters attended the funeral at Hill Country Bible Church in North Austin, along with several local government officials. 3) The city is experiencing an increase in collisions between vehicles and pedestrians. Data from Vision Zero reveals that there were at least 72 fatalities in 2022 and 27 pedestrian fatalities. “Austin this year has seen an increase in fatalities and serious injuries, especially compared to previous years,” said Joel Meyer, transportation planner at Vision Zero. “The rise in pedestrian fatalities in particular has been quite striking over the past few years and I want to emphasize that this is truly a national issue. It’s not just something Austin is going through.” CBS Austin has more on this story.


4) Austin emergency crews say they are ready for the Austin City Limits Music Festival. Captain Darren Noak of the Austin-Travis County EMS, said “Festival security is a team effort between police, fire and EMS personnel. They will also have a team of drones that will transmit real-time aerial imagery to the command post.” Head over to KXAN to learn more about how the city is preparing security measures to kick off this year’s festival.
